The season is over but not forgotten...Not by a long shot. PDF Print E-mail

………………………

Well…another racing season has come to an end. A little sad isn’t it?

Not-so-much…think of it this way. We have ALL winter to get ready for next season. We can get all our heads on straight again and start with a new slate. Erase our spinouts…wiped-out cones (glad they’re so soft and forgiving or we’d all be in the body shop each and every week).

YA, there’s at least one of those spinouts that I’d like to forget…a 56MPH power slide across the finish line last Sunday. (REALLY, 56mph…on the radar gun and my wife captured it on the video camera) With all that undeniable proof, there is simply no way I can deny it. There are 4 distinct cone silhouettes on the side of the Supra to prove it too. I just have one thing to say…THANKS BUDDY. He knows who he is. One of my friends (I thought) told me that it was full throttle all the way through to the finish line. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it…LOL.

I must have made Carl proud of that one. For anybody that doesn’t know…Carl’s tag line reads:

“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely and in one pretty piece - - -  but to skid across the line
broadside
throughly used up
worn out
shouting
"GERONIMO"

Sorry Carl but I just forgot to yell “GERONIMO”. I was yelling all right but it wasn’t that…my passenger was yelling the same word as me in stereo as if we planned it……… Only kidding LEO. By the way, sorry if I freaked you out there.

Ok, enough about the fun stuff. Oh, by the way, speaking of FUN…thank you JEREB ALLEN for a far out course…last one of the season and I never heard anyone bad talking you. It was greasy as all get out in the morning session due to the “COLD” temps. By the afternoon traction was considerably better and the FUN FACTOR took a proportional leap up. I saw a lot of smiling faces all day long. So here’s my official pat on the back, job well done and an “ATTA-BOY”. See, I told you Dude,” No pressure”. Nice job Jereb, you can breathe again.

Wait a minute…did I just say enough about the fun stuff? Sorry. What was I thinking? The whole season was fun. I don’t expect anything less for next year. We are all inherently adrenaline junkies and I fully intend to get my share of the fun next season.

Keep watching here for updates. The board has a few surprises planned for next season. Everything is hush-hush and very top secret…Not really; things just have to get finalized before I can let you all in on it. All I can say right now with any certainty is, “It’s gonna be another adrenaline filled season of FUN”.

Soooooo, get your cars tuned and ready for next season.

Happy Racing.

One day event. Registration is 8-9am. First car out at 10:30
Cost is $15 for the event member or non member.

Thanks to Atlantic Aviation, Hailey Airport. Please be respectful of our hosts, we would all like to be welcomed back to play. Valet parking available. Check the "Links" tab for directions.

Oh and did I mention that the place is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So here is the lodging info;
To start with, every hotel this weekend is completely empty
AmericInn 208-788-7950 www.americinn.com
Wood River Inn 208-578-0600 www.woodriverinn.com
Both of these are newer, have indoor pools and serve a breakfast. Their normal rate is 130 and they have both dropped to 85. Ask for the SCCA Sports Car Club Rate. They will extend that rate for more days if needed.
The other hotels in the Hailey Bellevue area are holding to the same rates but not even close to being as nice. They are old and run down. One of the people who was very instrumental in getting us this site works nights at the AmericInn, enough said.
Airport Inn 208-788-2477
High Country Motel, Bellevue 208-788-2050

Any one wanting to tent camp, there is a camp ground with bathrooms 3.5 miles east of Ketchum. I could possibly drop off enough wood for a camp fire and you could camp as a group and howl at the moon all night long. I think it is called Boundry Campground. Someone will need to contact me if wood is needed. This is where I might end up. I have howled (with a witness) and got a wolf to within 50 yds.

Motorhome camping, we have numerous options, call me any evening and I can direct you. 208-788-1414 -Chuck

Proposal for new timing system PDF Print E-mail
Written by Brian McGaha
Saturday, 12 September 2009

Making this proposal at the meeting of 9/15. Thought I would give everyone a head start, so that some of the questions can be asked and answered before hand. If you would like to give unofficial input or ask questions please join the discussion forum at http://snakeriverscca.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=997 Otherwise, please join us at the 9/15 membership meeting for a vote on the subject.

Proposal for new timing system…
Reasons for proposal
1.     With the problems that existed for our current system over the course of the season I think it is time for the club to invest in a new timing system, and have the current system waiting as a backup.
2.     Age of the current timing system is becoming an issue.
3.     Current timing system is “falling apart”
a.     Connections for timing lights
b.    Large display is un fixable
4.     Program that we currently run is only able to be run by a small handful of people. At that, only one person has the ability to overcome problems, if they exist.
The new system from Race America is a totally new system. The company was not interested in trying to integrate our current system with the newer software. Additionally they were not interested in attempting to fix our current timing display or integrating it into the newer system. Our current system will be freshened up and then placed in boxes and stored in the timing trailer “just in case.”
Benefits of the new system,
1.     Warranty and tech support
a.     The product comes with a 2 year warranty with possible extensions available to buy at the end of that period.
b.    Tech support- if we email our schedule to the tech support team, there will be a tech person on standby to reach by phone for the period of our events.
c.     Product updates are included in price for one year and available with extensions of service contracts. From the feedback I have read aren’t just “fixes.” The updates are actually add-on’s that increase the usability of the software. iphone access and wireless internet updates with live timing are examples of the updates.
2.     The timing lights are wireless. No more yelling about “running over the wires.” The T-link system included is able to be placed 25 feet out of harm’s way from the edge of the course. The system includes an interference program that will keep scoring accurate to .001 with up to 10 sec. of interference. The system also is calibrated to track not just a break in the beam, but a large break in the beam. So no more leaves setting off timing. The timing lights come with a rechargeable battery, using a jet ski or scooter sized battery. These batteries have more than enough life to do a weekend event without losing a charge. Included in the price is an extra set of lights, just in case.
3.     Ease of set up and use. From personal experience and user feedback this is the easiest program and timing system to set up and use. The program is not unlike any other windows program, based on point and click. Timing is done for the user. The timing person only keeps the order of cars going into the timing system and the program does the rest. No more manual insertion of times. To add cones the user clicks on the driver number and adds cone or DNF. I talked to the woman at Summerfast doing timing and she was talking to me and doing timing without any break in the conversation or difficulty.
4.     Display will be very large. It has a viewing range rating of 250 feet. It isn’t wireless. I didn’t think that we would really need that for our club. If wanted it is possible. As this system is concerned the board will have a 25 ft cord included. Longer cords or wireless is available.

The quote for this system is $4978.00. I will have copies of the quote for the membership at the meeting.
